Ecllise

Overview

The project explored how to bring a sense of calmness into the chaos of modern life through a physical product. Inspired by Bauhaus principles, shades of green as a calming colour, and the Indian aesthetic of Shanta Rasa, we explored how form, light, and functionality could come together to create a sense of quite and peace in everyday life.

My responsibility was to explore and develop a completely new physical product—from initial ideation and visual exploration to sketching, CAD, prototyping, and fabrication.

From chaos to calm

An open-ended exploration into whether a physical product could create a quieter presence in everyday spaces.

How might a physical product create a sense of calm in everyday life?

Rather than treating calm as something to communicate only through aesthetics, we explored how form, colour, light, material and function could work together to shape the experience.

Defining "Calm"

Three ideas shaped our direction:

Art Movement

Bauhaus

The Bauhaus movement gave us the structural and visual language for Ecllise.

  • Simple geometric volumes

  • Reduced ornamentation

  • Clear relationship between components

  • A form that feels intentional rather than decorative

Color

Green

We wanted the light to contribute to the atmosphere rather than compete with it. Green became the visual and atmospheric element through which the product could introduce a sense of nature and balance into the surrounding space.

Emotion

Shanta

An indian rasa gave us an emotional vocabulary for the experience we wanted the object to evoke.

  • Stillness: Avoid excessive visual movement:

  • Balance: Create visual balance between in design.

  • Serenity: Avoid aggressive contrasts or unnecessary details.

Physical Prototype:

It took us about 2 weeks to make the whole table after prototyping.

Crafting the acrilic sheet.

I forgot to document the previous process: cutting and bending the steel pipe.

Physical Prototype:

Understand aspects that were difficult to judge digitally—scale, proportion, material presence, light diffusion and physical assembly.

Sheet corners bent under load → raised it to redistribute stress centrally.

Exploration:

Exploring how there attributes could become an object.

Digital Modelling:

Translated the sketches into a CAD model to understand proportion, structure and how the different components would come together.

Identified instability in circular rod → added a small vertical support rod, preserving overall simplicity.

Exhibited the table to 200+ people

Visitors described the experience as calm and relaxing.

While 30% suggested, reducing the light brightness enhance the feeling of relaxation.

Everyone loved and enjoyed the experience of the product.
